TRAINING OF IWT PERSONNEL

Training of IWT personnel is essential as IWT is a specialised sector where trained persons are not readily available. A training of IWT personnel under Dutch Assistance on board using departmental Survey Launch 'KOSI' plying on N.W.-1 was imparted to Hydrographic Surveyors of IWAI using Automatic Hydrographic Survey Systems supplied under the Technical Assistance (TA) Project during 1997-98. The TA Project in Haldia Patna Stretch was concluded in December '97.

Human Resource Development in IWT is another thrust area. A National Inland Navigation Institute is being set up at Patna for providing training facilities to IWT personnel in India for which work of construction of building has been entrusted to CPWD on deposit basis. Construction is in progress.

In addition, the State government of Goa, Kerala, Orissa, West Bengal and UP have been requested to submit revised proposals for upgradation / setting up of crew training centres under centrally sponsored schemes.
