In addition, under JMVP the following terminals have been developed on National Waterway-1:

 

1. Multimodal Terminal at Varanasi

The Multimodal Terminal Varanasi, (Phase-I) with terminal capacity of 1.26 MMTPA, constructed at Ramnagar, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. This terminal was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 12.11.2018. This terminal is connected with two lane road with NH-7 and Rail connectivity from Jeonathpur railway station on the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) has been planned.

2. Multimodal Terminal at Sahibganj

The Multimodal terminal, with capacity of 3.03 MTPA has been constructed and inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 12.09.2019, the terminal is connected with NH 80 and the Rail connectivity is also proposed for this terminal from Sakrigali Railway Station.

3. Multimodal Terminal at Haldia

The Multimodal terminal at Haldia, with a terminal capacity of 3.08 MMTPA has been constructed on the land taken on lease from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata. Terminal was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 13th January 2023, the terminal is connected with NH 41. The Rail connectivity is also proposed at MMT Haldia.

4. Navigational Lock at Farakka

The New Navigational Lock has been constructed on 14.86 hac. land transferred by Farakka Barrage Project (FBP) on 02.03.2016. The construction has been completed and the lock was was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 17th October 2023.

5. Intermodal terminal at Kalughat

The Intermodal Terminal, Kalught has been constructed on 13.17 acres of land located at Kalughat, Saran district of Bihar. The capacity of the terminal is 77000 TEU. The terminal is connected with NH-27. The construction of IMT is substantially completed and was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Port Shipping and Waterways on 15.02.2024.

Besides, fixed jetties of Farakka Barrage Project (FBP) at Farakka and Pakur also exist on NW-1 and being used by transporters / shippers / cruise vessels.

Further, floating terminals at 20 locations along National Waterway – 1 are operational between Haldia and Allahabad which are being used for berthing of vessels, logistic support and embarking / disembarking facility to the users / tourists.

The locations of these 20 floating terminals are as under:

  • Haldia, Budge-Budge, BISN, Botanical Garden (Kolkata), Shantipur, Swaroopganj, Katwa, Hazardwari, Downstream (D/s) Farakka and Upstream (U/s)  Farakka  in West Bengal;
  • Rajmahal (Manglahat) and Sahibganj (Samdaghat) in Jharkhand and Bateshwarsthan, Bhagalpur, Munger, Semaria and Buxar in Bihar; and
  • Ghazipur / Rajghat, Ramnagar (Varanasi) and Allahabad terminals in Uttar Pradesh.

A new concept of JMVP-II (ARTH GANGA) has been included in the project to energize socio-economic development along the banks of Ganges. JMVP-II aims at setting up of 61 small community jetties along the Ganga to boost the economic activities and improve the livelihoods of local community. These jetties will have facilities viz. Berthing jetty with gangway, Passenger waiting hall, Security/ticketing/office rooms, Bio-toilets, Drinking water facility, Vehicle parking area, Facilities for differently abled, Connectivity with nearest road etc. Out of these, 25 community jetties have been commissioned.
